Are you interested in pursuing education abroad or settling in a foreign country? Let's provide you with a brief overview of the necessary steps.
One of the initial requirements is taking a standardized Language Test. But what exactly is a standardized test?
A standardized test is designed to enable the comparison of scores among different test-takers, regardless of when and where they took the test.
Let's delve into it further.
For example, if you take the CAT (Common Admission Test) in India, your scores are only valid for one year and can be compared with the scores of other students who took the test during the same period. This is an example of a non-standardized test.
On the other hand, a standardized test allows for the comparison of scores across different locations and time periods. Such a test has a specific validity period.
To determine which tests you need to take, consider the following information:
• If you plan to study in a country where English is the native language, you will likely need to take a language proficiency test, such as TOEFL, IELTS (Academic), or PTE (Academic).
Many reputable colleges and universities require applicants to submit scores from one of the aforementioned tests. For instance, countries like Canada and Germany typically accept IELTS, while countries like Australia, UK, and USA accept either IELTS, PTE, or TOEFL for application and admission purposes.
However, certain universities, particularly those in the US, may require both the GRE and TOEFL/IELTS.
• If your intention is to immigrate to a country that mandates an English proficiency test, you will need to take the IELTS-GEN or PTE-GEN.
• If you aspire to pursue an MS (Master of Science) or MBA (Master of Business Administration) program, you will need to take an additional standardized test in addition to the language proficiency exam. For MS programs in the US or abroad, the GRE is required. If you wish to pursue an MBA, the GMAT is the standardized test of choice.
